I was afraid of your alcohol breath
I was afraid of your alcohol breath
I was afraid of your complete disregard for me
I was afraid of your temper
I was afraid of handles being flown off
I was afraid of holes being punched into walls
I was afraid of your tes...tos...te...rone...
...I was afraid for my own bones...
There's a reason why "Sympathetic Character" off her Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie CD is my second-favorite Alanis Morissette song.
It comes in hard on the tail of "You Oughta Know," the song that put Alanis on the map when she blazed her trail in the world releasing Jagged Little Pill.
I've been thru that!
Alanis' lyrics ring so true to me -- as do they to many of her other fans.
I, too, have had a "sympathetic character" or two in my life.

I, too, have had a "sympathetic character" or two in my life.
Because of former maltreatment, I grew to hate anger being directed at me.
My coping skills included "making nice" and holding back my true feelings as a means to protect "my own bones."
But I'm being strengthened by the Balm in Gilead to walk a new path, the fine line between false flattery and mean-spirited criticism.
Speaking truly, dealing truly...
This brings me to my next blog review recipient, Zaw Wai of The Chronicle of My Investment Journey.
There are some redeeming qualities about this blog, like Zaw's kind blog reviews and the interesting Google Maps post first up.
But I've seen it before, along with the popular blogger template Zaw uses that doesn't distinguish this blog from the next.
The text is nice and clean, but there is unoriginal content.
The Google Adsense code is good at the top of some posts, but goes a little screwy on others.
I like the forthright gushing of Zaw's "I'm in love with John Chow!" post, but I don't feel much connection to him (or her?) otherwise.
No profile pic -- the bane of my existence. But I love how Zaw has the recent comments in the sidebar. I gotta figure out how to do that.
So there you go. I refuse to be spiteful like Simon Cowell, but I won't kowtow like Paula Abdul....

When you figure out how to get recent comments in the sidebar, blog about it because I want to do it too.
I tried to figure it out from Jose's blog, but it got messed up somehow. (I need the EasyReader version of widgets.)
Good post! The hook really grabbed me.
Have you read this yet? I hope it works for you, if you can get the comments in the sidebar, please let us know ok?
I could not get the whole address here, so if you search for "displaying recent comments in the side bar article" ( year was 2006) you will get there. If that wont work, I will save it and can email to ya! :-)

Take care and much peace,
Paula
Do you know that when you blow up your profile photo it looks like a painting of you?
Good post. Honest review, and I liked the poem.
Take care,
Jose
Thanks
And I believe John Chow is so successful because -- unlike some other popular bloggers -- Chow isn't stingy with the link love.
He's so honest about what he does to get to the top of Technorati. I just love his blog...
I still don't know why he doesn't have an email signup box, though.
I swear sometimes I forget to check the blogs that don't. I'm more apt to read stuff in my inbox than the stuff in my Google Reader or on MyYahoo page.
I'd better check back and see if Chow ever answered my comment about this issue.
