I just saw a commercial about this GPS tracker that can track your lost dog -- and they said it will text you with the dog's location, or the location of your stolen car, or your teenager who forgets to call you to tell you where they are:

Even if your car gets stolen, the police are more inclined to leave it and try and bust the whole crime gang and distributors.
It makes sense to them going after the big players but you might not be too happy about it as your car gets broken down into spare parts!
This is what happens in Ireland with the Gardai.
Perhaps I'm being a touch paranoid but anything that can be used to trace something can also be used to track you.
