PageRank Dropped from 5 to 4 ... Thank God it didn't drop to zero!

by Paula Neal Mooney

So big brother Google is doing the ol' PageRank update, and as you can see, my pagerank dropped from 5 to 4.

Yikes! (What's up with that future pagerank of zero? I'm cursing that in Jesus' Name!)

Anway, I'm glad my Google pagerank didn't drop down to zero, as you can see some of the people listed below have experienced recently.

Turns out it's all probably related to PayPerPost stuff, or do-follow stuff to people taking advantage of the whole no-no-follow thing, or my blogger salary backlinks or something.

PayPerPost Still Thinks I'm a Google PageRank 5...

I was monkeying around on PayPerPost today -- finally got a PPP direct offer for my TV site! (Thank You, Lord -- You're bringing in more money since I paused that thing to hear from You than when I was dripping blood, sweat and tears over it.)

Anyway, PPP still thinks I've got a Google PageRank of 5 on this blog. I was as tempted as Christ probably was to turn that stone into a hot buttered roll in the desert after 40 days of no food to accept one of those chumpies -- but none floated by boat, and they'd probably find out anyway at some point.

They'll update the fact that my Google PageRank dropped from 5 to 4 in a week or so, I'm guessing.

Did Your Google PageRank Drop, Too?

I know the folks listed below have experienced or written about this issue of Google's most recent pagerank dropping.

I was surprised to see that Darren Rowse once experienced change in Google SERP rankings akin to mine whereby his traffic significantly dropped. (His PageRank is a 6 right now, as well as ShoeMoney's, but John Chow's dropped to a 5.)

What to do after your Google Pagerank drops?

So ... I'm thinking about next steps. Maybe I'll get rid of the do follow stuff like Wendy from eMoms at Home talked about doing. (I see she's still a PageRank 5.)

I don't know, I just love giving link love to folks -- and my other sites! -- but we'll see.

I know I should really take the time to find my dead links and delete them.

Guess I'll take the time to read what some of these folks have written about pagerank dropping and decide (Yes, I know that's 30 more backlinks -- but I told you, I love giving the link love! It's one effective way for us to all get together around the same topic):

I lost PR in SIX blogs of mine. Had recovered from the shock and am still making money. Oh well, we are made of sterner stuff eh? Fall and rise again. My adsense dropped 40%, my traffic too. But that alone won't feed me, so I am still selling TLA and doing paid posts. Have you tried LinkWorth? It is great. They have their own LinkRank and doesn't rely on pagerank.
My PageRank dropped from 5 to 4!

The worse part is that my Technorati Authority is practically in the toilet. I have no clue what's going on.

At this update of the google, i lost pr too. I just dont know what happen. Maybe it tells me to optimize it again. very sad.

Mine dropped from a 4 to a 3 last update it went from a 5 to a 4. My traffic has not decreased. I don't rely too much Google for traffic and most of my money is made via affiliate marketing. I've made more with that than I've ever made with paid posts and adsense combined.

Personally I think people put too much emphasis on PR. What's important is how I rank for relevant terms. I do very well with that.

Yeah, hopefully the PR drop won't affect traffic.

I'm grateful mine is going back up.
I checked my statcounter and sitemeter, and it hasn't affected my traffic at all.
Paris David said…
Good, glad your traffic didn't drop any, Bonnie.

And thanks, Lilian -- I got approved for LinkWorth, but I really need to go back there and check out what to do.

Take care all,
Paula
