Adsense Video Units Link Missing -- When will the YouTube video units option be enabled by Google?

by Paula Neal Mooney

My new Adsense YouTube Video link / option is missing, unlike those guys who have a cool YouTube video up (hope y'all are making Google Adsense money off it!) displaying how to enable the new Adsense YouTube video option -- once you select the video units link in your Google Adsense account.

Problem that me and many others are experiencing is that when we log into our Google Adsense accounts, the YouTube video units link / option is missing. It's not there!

I've checked the Google Adsense help for info about the YouTube video link units option missing, but didn't see much info off-hand.

I'm going to work out.

Hopefully they'll add the Google Adsense YouTube video link option for everyone when I get back.

It's a good idea. Blog about a viral YouTube video and you could really up your Google Adsense money if it gets beau coup traffic.

Do you all have the Google Adsense YouTube video link option in your Adsense accounts?

Or is it missing like mine?

I copy paste a news item today in the NYT
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 8 — Google is taking the first steps toward turning its powerful advertising network, which places ads on hundreds of thousands of Internet sites, into a system for distributing content — and more ads — across the Web.

The Internet search giant is expected to introduce a service on Tuesday to allow Web sites in its ad network to embed relevant videos from some YouTube content creators. A Web site or blog specializing in hiking, for instance, might choose to embed hiking videos from.... etc. Something is happening and a lot of people are getting puzzled.

I only recently discovered this YouTube option, at DP, a lot of people didn’t seem optimistic about it. Maybe I’ll give it ago; my AdSense revenue is doing fairly well.

I just stumbled on your blog and I loooove it. I really appreciate you listing how much super successful bloggers make, and also I appreciate even more that you list how much aspiring, someday-to-be-super-successful bloggers make. It's good to get a realistic picture of what most people will face as beginning blogger-preneurs, and it makes me trust you and your blog, much more than I trust anyone who says "I make $100,000 a month on my blog, sitting on my ass and sipping Margaritas all day, and if you pay me $1000 I'll tell you how!" Keep posting all this useful info! I'm planning on launching a blog soon and it is very helpful.
I have no idea how to use it yet buy my YouTube unit is in my adsense product set up section

Well, I finally got the Google Adsense vido link option, and got the confirmation email that synced up my YouTube account with my Adsense account and got a video set up.

Too bad we can't (or can we?) make those video players smaller so I can put it in my Blogger sidebar. I've used the smallest video player option they have available.

And too bad us Blogger/Blogspot users can embed the Google Adsense YouTube videos inside our posts, only in page elements.

And one more too bad about the Google Adsense YouTube videos -- I wish I could choose one specific video directly, and not just rely on categories or keywords.

Anyway, if you need help embedding your Google Adsense YouTube videos on your site, here are the answers on their FAQ page:

What kinds of ads will appear in the video unit?

Video units may display two types of ads:

* Text overlay ads, which are displayed in the bottom 20% of the video as it plays
* Companion ads, which appear above the video content within the player

The ads displayed can be either contextually targeted or site-targeted, and may be paid on either a cost-per-click or cost-per-thousand impressions basis.

What languages do you support for video units?

Currently video units are only available to publishers located in the United States with English-language websites. We hope to broaden the reach of the program soon, but don't have a date for when this may be released more widely.

How do I add a video unit to my page?

Once you have linked your YouTube account and AdSense account, it's easy to add a video unit to your page. Just follow these steps to customize and implement your player.

1. Sign in to your account at http://www.google.com/adsense.
2. Select the AdSense Setup tab, then choose video units as the product.
3. You'll be directed to the YouTube website to customize your video unit. If you're not already logged in to YouTube, you will need to do so, then visit this page.
4. Enter a name and description for this player that will help you remember it in the future.
5. Customize the colors and layout of the player to fit your site.
6. Choose the type of content you'd like to display in this player: automated content that's automatically targeted to your site, or content from specific categories or providers.
7. Click the Generate code button.
8. Copy the code in the box and paste into the HTML source of your page where you'd like to display the video.

Once you've saved and published your page to the web, you'll see targeted videos start to show up right away.

How do I get started with video units?

In order to place video units on your site, follow the steps below. You'll first link your AdSense account with a YouTube account, then customize the video player to display on your pages.

1. Sign in to your AdSense account.
2. Visit the AdSense Setup tab and choose the video units link.
3. After reviewing the Terms and Conditions, check the box indicating you've done so.
4. Click the Visit AdSense Video units button. You'll then be taken to the YouTube website.
5. Once you're on the YouTube website, you'll need to link your AdSense account with a YouTube account. Learn more about linking accounts.
6. After your accounts are linked, revisit the AdSense Setup tab, choose video units as the product, and click the Visit AdSense Video units button.
7. You'll now see the option to create a new AdSense player. Give your player a name and description that will help you remember it in future should you wish to make updates.
8. Pick a color theme. You can change the colors in the future within your account without needing to update your code.
9. Pick a layout. Layouts can't be updated; if you want to change the layout in the future, you will need to create a new video unit.
10. Choose the type of content you want to display: by content categories, by individual content providers, or by automatically targeting your site content. You can also provide keyword hints to assist automatic video content targeting.
11. Click the Generate code button, then copy and paste the code into the HTML source of your site where you want to display a video unit.

That's it! Once you publish your site to the web, targeted videos should begin appearing right away.

How do I earn with video units?
When you place a video unit on your website, you'll earn revenue from two types of ad formats: companion ads, which sit above your video content within the player and can be either text or image-based, and text overlay ads, which appear in the bottom 20% of the video content area. Ads on video units can be paid on either a cost-per-click or cost-per-thousand impression basis.

What reports are available for video units?

Statistics from your video units will be displayed separately from other statistics on your reports page. For video units, we'll show the standard details about clicks, impressions, clickthrough rate, eCPM, and earnings. At this time, we aren't able to provide details about user viewing of the videos on your site.

Adsense Video Units will only become more popular if they are easy to use and if they are more profitable. Some bloggers do not use Adsense Video Units because they do not make any difference compared with regular Adsense blocks.
