For a person who writes a web site about where to download TV shows online, this new NBC Direct program, where you can soon download free and full episodes of 'The Office' and 'Heroes' is the best news I've heard all day.

(Let's hope and pray Mychal Bell being fully exonerated will be the next best news I hear today.)

NBC Direct is getting it right.

With NBC Direct, TV viewers will be able to download full episodes of shows like Life, 30 Rock, Friday Night Lights, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (will they all be free?) and keep them on their PCs for a week before they expire.

When is ABC going to get smarter and offer something similar (for shows like Oprah and The View) akin to NBC Direct?

I get hits all the time searching for full and free episodes of The Oprah Show (like this popular recent one about Jenny McCarthy, Holly Robinson Peete and their sons with autism) that don't exist!

They are leaving it to the YouTubbers to play a cat-and-mouse game of upload-and-take-down due to copyright violations. It's the black hole that Napster first took advantage of years ago when dealing with the demand to download free music online.

Oprah and The View, get your full TV show episodes online ASAP!

One reader offered to pay me for a full episode of Oprah when she interviewed Bill Clinton. I had to tell the woman I didn't have it -- that no one had the full and free episodes -- save for the little snippets of video on Oprah.com.

Unfortunately until ABC catches up with the 21st century and realizes that people want to immediately watch her full shows online -- folks are missing out on the ad and affiliate marketing revenue we will all soon enjoy when they wake up to the demand.

ABC can just make the full episodes free and ad-supported, like NBC Direct is doing.

ABC is already doing great by streaming full episodes (and full seasons!) of its prime-time shows like Grey's Anatomy online, now they just need to throw Oprah and The View on there as well.

What are they waiting for?

Amazon Unbox is making a killing selling full-length, new movies to download and watch online (technically offline) thru their Amazon Unbox player.

Will ABC and all other network stations get wise and follow NBC Direct all the way to the bank?
