NBC Direct -- Full and free episodes of The Office, Heroes -- and (pay for?) Life, Bionic Woman, 30 Rock, Friday Night Lights, Conan O'Brien, Jay Leno

by Paula Neal Mooney For a person who writes a web site about where to download TV shows online , this new NBC Direct program, where you can soon download free and full episodes of 'The Office' and 'Heroes' is the best news I've heard all day. (Let's hope and pray Mychal Bell being fully exonerated will be the next best news I hear today.) NBC Direct is getting it right. With NBC Direct, TV viewers will be able to download full episodes of shows like Life, 30 Rock, Friday Night Lights, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (will they all be free?) and keep them on their PCs for a week before they expire. When is ABC going to get smarter and offer something similar (for shows like Oprah and The View ) akin to NBC Direct ? I get hits all the time searching for full and free episodes of The Oprah Show (like this popular recent one about Jenny McCarthy, Holly Robinson Peete and their sons with autism) that don't exist! They are l...

On-the-Job Blogging: Do You Blog at Work?

by Paula Neal Mooney It's been eons -- well, since 2004 exactly -- since I held a "real job" from a "real desk" in corporate America. That was before I began this blog, so these days I often wonder: Do people update their personal blogs on the job? And like Fantasy Football fanatics, how much is this "fleece-blogging" costing companies? Of course, I'm not talking about corporate bloggers nor freelance bloggers for which blogging is part of the work day deal. I'm wonder how many "regular folk" like financial analysts, accountants, librarians, etc. are out there blogging using their office computers. I was, after all, a master at monkeying around on the job. My sister reminds me of the day I was so happy when I figured out how to write my magnum opus novel in invisible type on Microsoft Word so no colleagues could see what I was doing. (I shouldn't even mention the extended lunch hours I used to take, some days working out and hangi...

Why You Should Respond to Your Comments

by Paula Neal Mooney Back when I received my very first comment on one of my blog postings , I responded...eventually...once I got the post a comment deal down pat. I had a lot fewer writing assignments back then and was green to blogging. These days I'm so blessedly busy with writing work that I've turned off my comment moderation and let people post their comments right away. I read thru them via email as soon as I can get to them. Sometimes I respond to my blog's comments right away and right below the other person's comments on my blog. Other times I go to their blogs and read their postings, and work my response into my comments about their work. A lot of times I do neither. But the benefits to responding to your own blog comments are many fold. And I need to do a lot more of it to gain more of this good "Google juice" and other blessings: Comments keep your blog pages fresh . Instead of having static blog pages that rarely change, it's a good idea to...

Pastors on the Down Low...Did Anyone Catch Michael Baisden's Show Yesterday?

by Paula Neal Mooney Yesterday I was tooling around town in our 12-year-old Ford Explorer -- the one without XM Satellite Radio -- so I had time to catch snippets of Michael Baisden's radio show. Calling himself the "bad boy" of radio, Michael Baisden is a prolific author, speaker and probably a ton of other stuff I don't know who first came to my attention over ten years ago when a woman I worked with presented me with one of the first copies of his first book, which if memory serves was the fascinating Never Satisfied: How & Why Men Cheat . (From that book I learned the depths of depravity men can go to in order to get away with infidelity, using all kinds of tricks to forward calls from one device to another -- and that was back in 1995!) "You can just like give him ten dollars," the woman said of Michael Baisden's first effort. Since then I've followed Michael Baisden's career with great interest; I've always been impressed by his ch...

Wanna Get Listed on Google News? Use American Chronicle to Increase Pageviews...

Wanna Get Listed on Google News? Use American Chronicle to Increase Pageviews ...by Paula Neal Mooney Can I tell you how much I'm lovin' American Chronicle right now? I'd searched and searched for ways to get listed as a news source on Google News . I submitted my Orble blog to try and get on Google News, but they summarily rejected it, saying that Google News didn't accept websites maintained by one person. Then Orble bought the GoodAndBadNews.com domain name for me, which I considered building up and using multiple bylines and submitting to Google News ...I still might do that. But in the meantime, Googling for "submit to Google News" or "get included in Google News" or something like "PLEASE GET ME ON GOOGLE NEWS!!!" I found some guy whose blog post led me to American Chronicle. (Sorry, dude, I'm feeling research lazy right now. I'll give you the link credit later, hopefully...) Anyway, I sent the editors at American Chro...

The wonderful thing about Turbo Tail Tigger...

...is that it just might become the T.M.X. Tickle Me Elmo of the Christmas season, but it's a lot cheaper than the $109.99 that Elmo's going for right now. My fellow Associated Content writer hipped me to this Musical Turbo Tail Tigger toy in her product review of the Musical Turbo Tail Tigger. Looks cute and it's not too pricey...yet. Bookmark me at http://www.paulamooney.blogspot.com/ and drop back in to see what I'm up to next. Spray-On Condom Sounds Dangerous to Me...

...but maybe I'm just being like those older folks who like "the Google." If it were up to this German company that's developing spray-on condoms , folks wouldn't be needing the old Trojans these anymore. I mean, what guys would really want to beta test this? Bookmark or blogroll me at http://www.paulamooney.blogspot.com/ and drop back in some day to see what I'm up to next.
