Jim Karas and his Cardio-Free Diet...Will it work?

by Paula Neal Mooney
Update: I was just thinking about
Jim Karas and his
The Cardio-Free Diet
the other day at the gym.
So today I see that people are searching hot and heavy for
Jim Karas and his
The Cardio-Free Diet
for Lord knows whatever reason, therefore I'm updating this piece.
While I'm all for building muscle -- after all, Dr. Oz did just remind us that muscle burns 50% more calories on our bods -- I still feel compelled to get my 30 minutes of cardio in before hand on the treadmill.
I've figured out that I just
need to break a sweat.
I need the benefits that go along with running, walking, or StairMastering.
But I am all about doing the weight machines more, too.
Bigger, Stronger, Faster...Juicing?

Lately I've wanted to build muscle so much.
I figure since I'm not juicing like the guys (and dolls?) in the
Bigger, Stronger, Faster documentary -- I'm good to go with not putting on too much muscle.
One trainer at my church told me that my frame couldn't support a lot of muscle.
Well intended, yes, but I think his admonition just made me want to pump more iron. My mother didn't understand me as a female wanting to bench press weights, nor did my best friend.
"Ew, my aunt has a lot of muscles," she said.
"It's better than flab," I answered, to which she said, "Hmph!"
Anyway, these days I'm much more into
The Overfed Head thinking than anything else.
Do you follow Jim Karas' cardio-free diet?
If so, let me know what you think about it!
Original Article:I'm all over the moon over this personal trainer named
Jim Karas who just published a book called
The Cardio-Free Diet
.
Jim Karas is at the center of the latest dieting controversy because his cardio-free diet says that if us gym rats ditch our cardio routines and focus more on strength training, we'll lose more weight.
The Cardio-Free Diet has worked for Jim Karas -- helping him lose stubborn weight and reducing the crazy munchies that running gave him. Other women on the 20/20 show that featured Jim Karas lost a lot of weight, too, on the cardio-free diet.

I'm so geeked over this and ready to try it, especially since spring break is now over and I'm planning to cut back on the cookies and red wine...
And I'm not real concerned about losing my cardio workout, because I'm very active anyway and get lots of walking in naturally during each day.
This new cardio-free diet book just gives me the inspiration to stop wasting a full half-hour on the treadmill then rushing in only 10 or 15 minutes on the Nautilus machines.
Starting Monday, I will spend at least 30 minutes or more on the weight-training (which I love anyway) and rejoice as my new summer form appears. Yay!
